While searching for Attorneys to assist us, after several consultations, nothing was clicking.....we found out they also defend HOA's. NOT the case with LS Carlson. They only defend residents. We were issued an IMPROPER violation for WORK WITHOUT A PERMIT when we DID NO WORK. 6 Emails (3 to the to the City Inspector and 3 to the City Attorney all fell on DEAF EARS. Christine and Jeff were able to get the violation WITHDRAWN in only a few weeks.

They're not cheap, but they helped me deal efficiently and effectively with harassment from my HOA. Ryan Davies did a great job of representing me at a hearing on a bogus "reimbursement request." After the hearing, the HOA Board voted unanimously to drop the matter. I'm an attorney myself, and I was impressed with Ryan's professionalism. HOA's can get out of control and power hungry. I'm glad there's a firm that's standing up for homeowners.

If you are a member of a condominium or homeowners association and you have a significant concern, THIS IS the firm to consult. It is rare to find lawyers who represent unit owners rather than associations (their boards), and this firm represents unit/home owners exclusively. Once I made contact and set up a consultation, I was encouraged to provide information before the meeting, and I did. My consultation was with attorney Jeffrey Kominsky. He was great. He listened actively, answered my questions, explained the processes to challenge the Board, and he provided guidance on additional information to gather. Finally, he explained how to move forward with engaging the firm, and gave me a realistic range of the cost to initially challenge the board. He was NOT a pushy salesman. HOA's can hold a lot of power. They can make decisions which seem arbitrary or unreasonable and then use their retained lawyers to intimidate homeowners. All is not lost! We reached out to this company because we are having ongoing HOA issues. The issues range from mismanagement of special assessment loan funds, CC&R compliance, 2 water intrusions over the last 7 years. This has become such a distressing situation impacting our home, our cars, our storage and even our back patio which they are to maintain. The HOA has purposely chosen not to fix anything or to do as little as possible but still leave the overarching problem in place. My wife and I, have decided we can no longer go in this way and started reaching out to lawyers to understand the process, potentially pitfalls and some basic costs to see if it would be worth it to use our savings and invest our time to go this route. It appears that we would be looking at 1-2 years and possibly 15k to get to some sort of meaningful mediation and even then the HOA could drag out the process, not pay and even not fix our existing issues... this is a sad place to be as a homeowner in today's HOA world. It seems like it would be less costly for them to just fix stuff and create a true cooperative environment then treat owners like dirt by not fixing basic items or go on petty abuse of power plays that leave owners with no choice but to do a lawsuit. This also forces us to stay here until the suit is settled, we couldn't sell but we are thinking or renting it out so we wouldn't have to deal with this nightmare HOA. Anyway, today I spoke with Mollie at this law firm. Her knowledge of the process, common issues with HOA's and how to get the information if she didn't know the answer was very impressive! Even more impressive was her honesty!! When other firms made up fake processes to drive up the price and justified it by saying the HOA is going to pay your fees when we win anyway.. Mollie not only was patient with all our question but even took a stand saying No, that's not the process!! We really appreciated this conversation it was so valuable.
